Genuine vs OEM truck parts: how Saudi fleets should choose
Genuine, OEM and aftermarket parts are not the same thing. This guide explains the difference and how to choose for each part on your vehicles.

When a fleet manager asks for a quotation, one of the first questions is whether they want genuine or OEM parts. The answer affects price, delivery time and, sometimes, warranty. The right choice depends on the part and on the vehicle, so there is rarely a single rule for a whole fleet.
What do the terms mean?
Genuine parts are supplied by the vehicle manufacturer, in the manufacturer’s packaging and with its part number. They are often made by an outside supplier, but they are sold through the vehicle brand’s own channel.
OEM parts (original equipment manufacturer) are made by approved manufacturers to the same specification as the original part. Many come from the same factories that supply the vehicle brand, but they are sold in the maker’s own packaging.
Aftermarket parts are made by other companies to fit the vehicle. Quality ranges from excellent to poor, and the specification is not always checked against the original.
How they compare
- Price: genuine parts cost the most. OEM parts for the same fitment are typically lower in price.
- Availability: genuine parts for older or less common models can take weeks to arrive. OEM alternatives are often in stock locally.
- Warranty: vehicles still under manufacturer warranty may require genuine parts for some systems. Check your warranty terms before switching.
- Fit and performance: a good OEM part matches the original specification. The risk comes from unverified aftermarket parts, not from OEM parts as a category.
When to choose genuine
- Vehicles still under manufacturer warranty
- Safety-critical systems where you want the manufacturer’s exact part, such as some brake valves and steering components
- Electronic parts and sensors that must match the vehicle’s software
When OEM makes sense
- High-volume consumables such as filters, brake pads, belts and bearings
- Older vehicles out of warranty, where downtime costs more than the price difference
- Parts where the genuine item has a long lead time and the vehicle is off the road
How to avoid counterfeit parts
Counterfeit parts copy genuine packaging and are a real risk in the regional market. Buy from suppliers who can show where a part was sourced, check packaging and labels carefully, and be cautious of prices far below the usual market rate. At Arabian Fleet Company, every batch is barcoded and traceable to its source.
Our approach
Every quotation we send states the part type for each line, so you can choose genuine for some parts and OEM for others on the same order. If you are not sure, our parts specialists will recommend an option based on the vehicle, its age and how the part is used.
